Facebook has been accused of enabling the spread of hate and violence by not taking down the content in countries such as Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, and other countries.
Algorithms that control what people see and designed to maximize audience engagement are likely to lead to confirmation bias as people seek out and find information that supports prior beliefs, and may even radicalize people.
None of these problems are unique to Facebook. They apply to to social networks more broadly, and to a lesser extent the Internet in general. The Internet also comes with social advantages for many users.
