This website is the brain child of Manjula Jonnalagadda and Gordon Irlam. We are semi-retired Silicon Valley software engineers. Manjula is an iPhone app developer. Gordon played a role in the open platform that is email, and is an effective altruist, seeking to create a more effective and efficient society. Our political leanings tend towards the more liberal side of things, although we are sympathetic to claims that Facebook has censored conservative voices.
All of the harms of Facebook are the result of a company seeking to make 2 cents of profit per user per day. As a society, we feel we could do a lot better. Basing social networks on an open platform analogous to email we feel would do this.
Things are not all bleak. We live in a society in which it is still possible to create a website challenging one of the largest corporations in the world. We seek to keep things this way.
The only difficulty we have had in creating this website has been Namecheap refusing to register the domain because it contained a "previously identified trademark", but we were able to register the domain at GoDaddy.
